4: The Knight
From amidst the distant shadows
He appeared like a knight
Prepared to fight his next battle.
So subtle a presence to be ignored.
His eyes,
Like burning embers,
Sending sparks straight through to my soul,
Igniting forbidden desires deep within,
Those I never knew existed.
For he knew how to reach
The sacred parts of my being
Which had remained safely hidden
From the cold, cruel world from which I came,
Stealing the very breath from my chest
With the love I so desperately longed for.
Lost in his carefully orchestrated flattery
And absolute serenity.
Stung by forceful clarity as it washed over me,
Taking over my world as I slept,
Creeping ever so softly to the foot of my bed
Rendering me nothing more than helpless.
Unprepared,
Dancing through fields of green
In perfect harmony with his brilliant orchestra,
I longed for nothing more.
This fantasy of which I breathed,
Suffocating me so sweetly,
Bathing me in all of it's sinful perfection.
My past a distant memory,
The pain of yesterday no longer relevant
In the world that existed to me now.
I was stronger.
Never to be held down by the hands of another,
Or so I blindly believed.
How was I to see the wrath
That was to unfold beneath my steady hand,
So oblivious I was to never again trust a stranger,
My soul already on its knees begging for forgiveness.
Tainted along the way,
This love which so cleverly laid its cruel hands upon me,
Breathing the life out of a man
Who would never understand the true taste of it.
Yet, even with the obvious laid so clearly before me
Like a map drawn specifically for my eyes,
I could not resist the heat from his flame.
Bound by this attraction,
The taste of sweet addiction.
Restless in my own skin
I surrendered it all with no regret.-
