6: Fallen Angel

Fearing the devil no more
I now traveled the path of the righteous
Following closely into the light before me
With nothing less than honest intentions.
Vowing never again to be blinded
By the selfishness that once suffocated me from within.
But, oh how evil dwells.
Lurking in the far reaches of the unexpected
Overshadowed by darkness in far corners unseen.
For despite my good fortune and lessons learned
This cruel game was far from its bitter end.
Unknowingly
I had ventured into the devil's playground once more,
Closer to the fire storm in my path with every innocent step,
The fresh grass beneath my feet slowly turning to ash
As my senses deceived me.

This twisted tangled web of deceit
Spun from broken hearts and selfish greed
Had taken hold of her soul with a vengeance
While my heart found a new fondness
For one better left in the past.
Mended soul and old ways forgotten,
Yet blinded by this subtle ignorance
So carefully tucked away in the subconscious.
Doors that were never meant to be opened
Sometimes never truly get closed.

Tempted by fate and a taste for revenge,
With a sinister glow in her eyes
Emanating everything that she had lost
And all that she had hoped to gain.
Carefully calculated moves meant only to destroy,
The false prophet rises again
To take what is hers in a desperate attempt at eternal happiness.
Never trusting,
She reached out for her own forgiveness
For she knows that she has done wrong.
This tangled web she weaves.
So brilliant in all of its dishonesty.
But she has played this game before.
She knows the rules and follows them well
While following the one she claims she's so strongly against.

Buried beneath my own forgiveness and newfound self,
I am foolish to the powers of lust and envy.
Struck down by fantasies of the flesh
And a few kind words
From the lips of one fallen angel
Whose tarnished wings remained carefully hidden
Beneath a cloak of pearl white.
Into the abyss I wander with no regret,
Oblivious to the downfall which awaits me
Laid out like a welcome mat beneath my feet.
So sweet is the hatred seeping from her fingertips
In a single embrace that would seal the deal.

Words never spoken harbor such sharp edges
As they cut through the heart
Like a thousand shards of broken glass.
Pretending to be with a painted smile,
Captivating underneath the glow of the stars
For she remains sheltered by the night.
Once tormented by darkness,
It is now her protector and into the path of destruction
I unknowingly follow,
Her hand leading the way
As trust overcomes my better judgement.
Leaving in our wake a state of confusion
Constructed of lies and a thousand tears
Bleeding onto the shoulders of the innocent.-
