Center Stage

Perhaps the scenery had carelessly slipped my mind.
Or perhaps I simply didn't care.
Blinded by a single silhouette and many tainted delusions
That I could no longer ignore,
I selfishly surrendered all control
With no regard for what might come of it.
Drowning in tranquil silence
As the words fell from his lips with such precision,
I eagerly dove into the flames with eyes closed
And not a single trace of regret.
I savored the taste,
For it was far more succulent than I could have ever imagined.
The darkness became our refuge
As I anticipated the in-depth conversations
And whatever transpired after them.
The rest of the world ceased to exist as long as we remained here,
So perfectly content
With nothing more than each other's company.
They remained where they were,
Comforted by what lies they chose to believe,
As we continued on with our lives
In the way that they were meant to be.
We were nothing more than performers on a stage
To be applauded, ridiculed, or simply ignored.
Amateurs we were not,
Having carefully studied our craft and every aspect of it
For some time before our paths finally crossed.
We were not the fools,
For they willfully allowed themselves to be deceived
While we joyfully basked in their ignorance.-
