Pieced Together
He held her hand knowing not
What lied beneath
The innocence in her smile.
She welcomed every part of him,
Even the broken pieces
That he would rather not mention.
He told her of his life
Away from this place,
The raw, untouched truth of it.
She had seen this many times before.
This is where it always begins.
She had only wanted
To get to know him
And now she was burdened
With the task of fixing
The unfix-able.
Unseen
Were the many jagged pieces
So carefully pieced together
While no one was looking,
Their attention focused
On much bigger things.
Blending in quite peacefully,
They continued their daily lives
With nothing more
Than a lingering stare
Or the subtle brushing of fingertips
As they passed in the hallway.
At the end of the day
They would say their goodbyes
As she reluctantly watched
Him disappear into the world
That had led him to her.-
