Let You Go
The only way for me to let you go is to hate you.
To see every word you speak
As a sword driven purposefully through my chest;
Each deliberate encounter
An opportunity to laugh at my misfortune
As you taunt me with your presence and pretty little lies,
Simple reminders that I am a merely a lesson in what not to do.
I despise you for all that you pretend to be,
That beautiful man in the mirror
Nothing more than a broken, disfigured soul
Hidden carefully beneath an ego painstakingly crafted by these hands,
Those of which still bear the scars of their labor.
I fell for you,
Blinded by a feeling that I knew would eventually haunt me
And here I am,
Desperately trying to extinguish a fire
That was never meant to ignite.-
