Glances
I notice him
Watching me from a distance,
His eyes piercing through my soul
As if they were flames
Shooting through me.
I attempt to hide my flustered expression,
Pretending to be completely
Immersed in my work.
I become completely undone when he looks at me,
My mind instantly erased of all its content
As I struggle to maintain
Whatever sliver of conscious control
That I might have left.
This is no easy task,
For each day it gets harder for me
Not to fall even further
Than I had fallen the day before.
One could only hope
That this might end in subtle bliss,
But we are all too aware of the reality of fairytales.
I glance back at him and he is gone,
Leaving me to wonder once more
If I will ever understand the true meaning of this.
I carefully piece myself back together
Unbeknownst to those around me
As the anticipation
Slowly begins to build once more.-
