Her
I stared past him and into her loving eyes,
Admiring the blinding glow of her aura.
This is how it had been since the very beginning,
Telling lies to cover one simple truth.
She was beautiful,
So easily unexplained,
Possessing everything that kept his heart beating
Though his demeaner often told otherwise.
She was one to be admired,
Such perfection in a stranger
Whom I had only laid my eyes upon once.
I could feel their bond with each day passing,
My heart growing fonder for him,
An obvious mistake beyond my conscious control.
I wanted what they had,
What she had,
The fairytale I watched from a distance
While settling for mismatched labels and unrealistic expectations.
Love is a horrible thing
When it presents itself at the wrong time.
Through lost hope and forced smiles I longed for him to see me,
To love me in the way that he loved her.
I held onto his promises as if they were my lifeline,
Missing what would never be;
A mirage growing farther from my grasp with every step.
I struggled to keep him happy while she conquered it effortlessly,
Hanging onto every word
As he openly confessed his love for me
While forever running back into her open arms.-
